What’s Been Growing Beneath the Surface

There’s something about May that feels like a quiet turning point.

Almost overnight, the world around us begins to shift. Trees that looked bare and lifeless just weeks ago are suddenly full of color. Flowers rise up from the soil as if on cue, revealing beauty that was forming long before we ever saw it.

It’s a powerful reminder that what looks still… isn’t stagnant.

In nature, dormancy is not the absence of growth—it’s preparation.

During the colder months, everything essential is happening beneath the surface. Roots are expanding. Systems are strengthening. Energy is being stored. And when the time is right, that unseen work becomes visible.

The same is true in leadership—and in life.

There are seasons where progress feels invisible. Where ideas seem to sit without movement. Where clarity hasn’t quite landed. Where momentum feels paused.

But what if that season wasn’t unproductive?

What if it was necessary?

What if, instead of being stuck, you were actually being strengthened?

It’s easy to mistake stillness for stagnation. To assume that if we can’t see results, nothing is happening. But often, the most important growth occurs out of sight—refining your thinking, deepening your resilience, and preparing you for what’s next.

And now, as this new season unfolds, a different question begins to emerge:

What is ready to come to the surface?

With growth comes a renewed sense of energy. There’s often excitement in stepping into something new… but also a layer of uncertainty. That’s part of the process. Growth rarely feels completely comfortable.

This is where curiosity becomes a powerful leadership tool.

Curiosity allows you to move forward without needing full certainty.

It shifts you from trying to control outcomes… to being open to discovery.

It replaces pressure with possibility.

And often, it’s the very thing that creates momentum.

Because the leaders who continue to grow aren’t the ones who always have the answers—they’re the ones willing to ask better questions.

The Role of a Coach in Your Next Season

Stepping into something new—especially when it’s not fully defined—can feel both energizing and overwhelming. This is where coaching can be transformational.

A coach doesn’t hand you a roadmap.

They help you uncover your own.

They create space for you to think more clearly, challenge what may be holding you back, and move forward with intention. They walk alongside you as you:

  • Bring clarity to what’s been forming beneath the surface

  • Recognize and reframe limiting beliefs

  • Identify meaningful, aligned risks

  • Take intentional action toward what matters most

  • Stay accountable through the discomfort that often comes with growth

Because transformation isn’t a single moment—it’s a process. And having a thinking partner in that process can be the difference between staying where you are… and fully stepping into what’s possible.

Questions to Guide Your Growth This Season

As you move through this month, consider giving yourself space to reflect:

  • What has been quietly developing within me that’s now ready to be expressed?

  • Where might I be mistaking stillness for stagnation?

  • What feels new, exciting, or slightly uncertain right now?

  • What risk am I being invited to take?

  • What could shift if I approached this season with curiosity instead of control?

  • Where could a coach or thinking partner help accelerate my growth?

  • What would “stepping into bloom” look like for me—personally and professionally?

May isn’t just a shift on the calendar.

It’s an invitation.

An invitation to trust that growth has been happening—even when you couldn’t see it.

An invitation to lean into what’s emerging, rather than holding back.

An invitation to move forward with intention, curiosity, and courage.

Because whatever is ready to grow in your life right now…

has likely been preparing for this moment all along.

The real question is:

Will you step into it?
